Unfinished Wood Vent Cover | Custom Size Laser-Cut Plywood Air Return Grille
Prices in USD · Free shipping CA & US · Prices may vary by +-$5
Raw plywood, laser-cut to your exact measurements. Paint it, stain it, or leave it bare.
An unfinished decorative vent cover, cut to order in our Montréal workshop. Ships sanded and ready for DIY finishing, so you control the color instead of matching ours.
How Pricing Works
Price is set by the largest side of your panel. Choose the tier that fits, then give us your exact dimensions.
- Up to 8" — from $29
- Up to 12" — from $39
- Up to 16" — from $52
- Up to 20" — from $66
- Up to 24" — from $85
Larger than 24"? Message us before ordering and we'll quote it. Please don't order a 24" tier for a larger panel — we'll have to contact you for the difference.
Finish Options
- Unfinished — bare plywood, lightly sanded. No stain, no varnish, no paint. Ready for your primer.
- Primed — add $12. Sealed and ready for topcoat, saving you the messiest step.
Ordering 20 panels or more? Ask us about primed pricing on bulk orders.
Getting Your Size Right
All sizes refer to the outside dimensions of the cover, not the hole in your wall.
- Enter your exact width and height in the order notes — we cut to 1/16" within your selected tier
- Measure both the opening and the surrounding flat surface the cover will rest on
- Not sure? Send a photo of your current vent and we'll work it out with you
We can also work from a sketch, adjust pattern density, or open up the pattern if you need more airflow.
Material
3/16" lauan plywood with a vinyl backer. Lightweight, slightly flexible, and easy to cut or trim on site.
The pattern repeats consistently, but wood grain and tone vary naturally from piece to piece.
Where It Works
- Return air grille covers
- Air intake and decorative panels
- Wall and ceiling accents
- Closet and cabinet door inserts
Interior use only. Not intended for floors or high-impact areas.
Installation
We recommend construction adhesive. Finish nails or pin nails can hold the panel while the adhesive sets. Works on drywall and finished wood, as long as the surface is clean, dry, and stable.
Let the panel acclimate indoors for 24 to 48 hours before installing. For clean cuts, use a fine-tooth blade.
Covering a large area? Order about 5% extra for waste — more if your project has lots of corners or obstacles. The pattern can carry visually from panel to panel, though it isn't a continuous veneer match.
Production & Shipping
- Production: approximately 2–3 weeks, since every panel is cut to order
- Shipping: 5–20 days after production, depending on your destination
Working to a deadline? Message us before you order and we'll tell you honestly whether we can meet it.

Questions
What if I'm not sure which bottom option to pick?
Look at the bottom of your chime unit. If wires or a power cord come out from the bottom, chooseNo bottom. If it's fully self-contained and mounts to the wall, chooseWith bottom. Still unsure? Send us a photo and we'll advise you.
How do I install the cover?
The cover slips over your existing chime unit and can be secured with small L-brackets (included) or double-sided mounting tape. No tools required for most installations.
Can I request a custom finish or stain not listed?
Yes! Contact us before ordering with your request. We can match custom stain colors or apply a specific paint. Custom finishes may add 2–5 business days to production.
What if my dimensions are unusual?
We make every cover to order, so unusual sizes are no problem. Just send us the measurements and we'll confirm before we start.
